Matt Goss and his twin Luke are "completely estranged"

Matt doesn't wish to discuss their estrangement at length, and while he would love to still be in the 'When Will I Be Famous?' group with his sibling, he must protect his mental health.

In a candid interview, he told The Guardian newspaper: "I don't want to go into detail, but I also don't want to lie any more. We are completely estranged.

"When you do your best, that is enough. And I've done my best. I really have. Listen, I want to be on the stage with him, I want to be touring with the band, I want to be having a pint, I want him to meet my girl, I want to meet his. I want to live with him. But I'm not going to make myself unwell. I'm not." What is behind the tensions? "It's a tough one. I don't want to say too much, out of respect for him. But I'm not going to say it's kumbaya, because it certainly isn't."

Matt insisted it's for the best that they are apart, so he doesn't "put" himself "in harm's way", and explained the importance of surrounding himself with people who love him back.

He said: "I love Luke, I do. But I can't comment on that on the record. I don't want to put myself in harm's way. This is not a rehearsal. We have a finite amount of time on this Earth, and I want to be around people who really love me, and I want to be around people I really love. And it should be a reciprocal experience."

Matt added: "I've got a tattoo saying: 'Never waste good agony'. I had two choices. You either let it control you or you control it."

The pair's relationship was the focus of 2018 documentary 'Bros: After the Screaming Stops' and Matt admitted putting their troubles onscreen helped him find peace because he realised every family deals with "dysfunction".

Appearing on UK TV show 'Lorraine' recently, he reflected: "It was difficult to watch it, because it was so dysfunctional in many ways. But what happened afterwards, I realised that people would come up to me, and fellas would come up to me and say: 'We are dysfunctional as well'.

"There is a lot of dysfunction in family. In many ways we find comfort from friends because family have that ability to go a little bit too far sometimes and they know the buttons to press ...

"I feel like now I have a whole philosophy within myself that if I do my best, and I know that I can look at myself and say I've tried my best ... if that doesn't work, then that's okay. I have to live my own life as well."

Matt has had a successful solo career and his most recent album, 'The Beautiful Unknown', reached number 7 in the UK album charts 2022. In March, the singer will embark on the 'Matt Goss: The Hits and More' tour, and he has a new album on the way, as well as landing his first movie role.
