New Super Rugby Pacific CEO Jack Mesley is eager to bring a twelfth team back into the competition following the axing of the Melbourne Rebels

Just eleven teams will play in this year's tournament which means teams will have byes during the season.

However, Mesley says it's unrealistic that a new team will join Super Rugby Pacific in 2026.

The Super Rugby season kicks off on Friday with the Crusaders hosting the Hurricanes.
