Smiths City is stopping trading as financial pressures increase

Smiths City is stopping trading as financial pressures increase

The home appliance and furniture retailer - founded in Christchurch in 1918, has been placed in Voluntary Administration this morning.

All of the country's nine stores and the online shop have been closed so administrators can undertake an urgent assessment.

Retail NZ chief executive Carolyn Young says it's devastating news and that everything is now in the hands of those in charge of the voluntary administration.
