The Black Sticks women have claimed their place at next year's World Cup, much to the financial relief of their governing body

They beat Australia in a penalty shoot-out in Darwin, claiming the Oceania Cup series 2-1 and qualifying for next year's global showpiece in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The triumph means they dodge any potential meat-pack raffles and sausage sizzles.

Captain Olivia Shannon has acknowledged the fiscal significance on TVNZ Plus.

Meanwhile, the men fell to Australia 4-1 but still qualify as Oceania's second-best side.
