Acutely ill patients are driving up demand for hospitals, leading to increased pressure on ambulances

Acutely ill patients are driving up demand for hospitals, leading to increased pressure on ambulances

Data from St John reveals they fielded more than 700-thousand 111 calls for the first time last year.

They also attended more than 550-thousand incidents.

Health commentator Ian Powell says the rate of acute hospital admissions is increasing higher than population growth.

He says factors like poverty and poor housing are making sick people even sicker.
