Police Minister Mark Mitchell has slammed a disgusting and cowardly incident in the Waikato after an officer was hit by a car

Police Minister Mark Mitchell has slammed a disgusting and cowardly incident in the Waikato after an officer was hit by a car

The officer was conducting enquiries at an address around 8 last night in Huntly, when a vehicle hit them and a police car.

The driver fled, but was later arrested.

The officer was taken to hospital with a moderate injuries.

Mr Mitchell says they're working at pace with legislation on serious consequences for attacks on police and first responders.

Police Association President Chris Cahill says deliberate incidents like this are not uncommon.

A 47-year-old man was scheduled to appear in court today.
