The Treasury's unveiled an optimistic set of financial results, as Budget Day draws ever closer

The Treasury's unveiled an optimistic set of financial results, as Budget Day draws ever closer

But the Crown's financial statements in the eight months to the end of February, show the Government's books are still very much in the red.

The Government's tax revenue was about a billion dollars higher than forecast, and its expenses were around 500-million dollars lower than anticipated.

And, although the deficit now sits at 6.6 billion dollars -- that figure is actually 1.4 billion dollars lower than expectations.

Finance Minister Nicola Willis has previously warned that the Crown's fiscal position has been deteriorating.
