A man has been imprisoned for 10 years and eight months after abducting a woman and raping her repeatedly

Open Justice reports the man tricked his partner's female relative into getting into a vehicle in late 2023 and took her to a remote area off the Taihape-Hastings road.

The woman was eventually able to lock her abductor out of the car and drive away.

He's pleaded guilty in the Napier District Court to a raft of charges relating to the abduction, including three of rape and four of unlawful connection.

The man also admitted to injuring one of his former partners.
