A police standoff in Auckland is over - with a man taken into custody

A police standoff in Auckland is over - with a man taken into custody

A police officer was shot carrying out enquiries at a Flat Bush property this morning, and has since been discharged from hospital.

Herald Reporter Raphael Franks was there as the siege ended, reporting loud cracks, followed by a pungent chemical smell.

He says there's still a large emergency presence but it looks like they're moving into a new phase - with firefighters going into the property, and Armed Offenders Squad members exiting.
