Alec Baldwin has claimed Donald Trump's wife loves his impression of the US president

The former '30 Rock' actor portrayed the commander-in-chief on 'Saturday Night Live' from October 2016 to November 2020 and he has now revealed former White House press secretary Sean Spicer told the SNL team at the Emmy Awards that Melania Trump made sure she tuned in for all his episodes because she was so amused by the accuracy of his impersonation

Speaking at a 92nd Street Y event, the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column reported he said: "Spicer - maybe he had a couple drinks, I don't know; I wasn't there... he says to the people at 'SNL,' 'Melania watches the show every Saturday night. And she points at the TV and says "That's what he's like! That is what he's like! Exactly! Alec Baldwin is exactly like Donald!" '

"We're gagging laughing, but it made sense! She loves when they give it to him, you know what I mean?"

The president - who guest hosted the long-running sketch series in April 2004 and November 2015 - himself has slammed Alec's portrayal of him a number of times.

He previously tweeted: "Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me. Time to retire the boring and unfunny show.

"Alec Baldwin portrayal stinks. Media rigging election!Isic)"

On another occasion, he posted: "Just tried watching 'Saturday Night Live' - unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can't get any worse. Sad.(sic)"

In 2022, he predicted the demise of the show, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

He tweeted: "I once hosted 'Saturday Night Live,' and the ratings were HUUUGE! Now, however, the ratings are lower than ever before, and the show will probably be put to rest.(sic)"

Meanwhile, Alec, 66, previously admitted he thinks Trump is "an immensely dull man" and was forced to turn his impersonation into a "cartoon version" of the president to make it interesting for viewers.

He told Vulture: "If we were looking for the most precise rendering of Trump's personality, you'd slow it down a lot. Trump is not really as energetic as I try to make him. There's a conflict there between a really effective impersonation of him and what I do.

"So what I gave them was my cartoon version of that. It's got certain gestures, it's got certain neuroses, it's got certain buffoonery and a kind of narcissism and so forth.

"But it is not by any means, nor could it be, a really precise impersonation of Trump.

"A long-form impersonation of Trump would put people to sleep in five minutes. Trump is dull. Trump is an immensely dull man. When you listen to him talk, he's not that smart, he's not that engaging, he's not that verbally skilled. He says the same thing over and over again.

"If we really did an impersonation of Trump, that would be the best sleep aid I've ever heard of in my life. So we did what I came up with, which was more of a caricature."
