A person has been charged with unlawfully carrying an imitation firearm, after an incident in Wellington's Webb Street

It followed a five-hour stand off yesterday which, started after a reported firearm sighting.

Officers engaged with the person inside the building, and armed police were at the scene in case a firearm was present.

It started about 1:30pm and lasted until a person was taken into custody without incident at 6:15 last evening

Police acknowledge the disruption caused by their cordons, and the distraction devices they used which create loud bangs.
