A man whose brother died when White Island erupted in 2019, believes a coronial inquest beginning this week, almost six years later - is a waste of money

It'll formally open in the Whakatane District Court on Friday - and continue in Auckland.

Twenty-two people died after the eruption - including tour guide Hayden Marshall-Inman, whose body was never found.

Brother, Mark Inman, hopes the inquest might bring closure to others bereaved, but doesn't think anything new will come to light - and says his family is looking to the future.

Forty-five witnesses are scheduled to give evidence.
