A criminal defence lawyer says trials are being pushed out two years - as the Government celebrates cutting down on court wait times

A criminal defence lawyer says trials are being pushed out two years - as the Government celebrates cutting down on court wait times

New stats show the District Court backlog is down 20-percent since April 2023 - equating to about 17-hundred cases.

But Criminal Bar Association Vice-President Sumudu Thode says, come the end of the year, jury trials will be set down for 2028.

She's unsure if the Government's initiatives are having an impact, because they've only been in place a few months.
