Sophie Ellis-Bextor has no rules in her house

The 46-year-old singer has five children - Sonny, 21, Kit, 14, Ray, 11, Jesse, seven, and Mickey, four - with her husband Richard Jones and says there are "too many" kids for her to impose rules at home.

She told The Telegraph: "I'm a communicator. I often ask them, 'What would you do if you were the parent in this situation?' We're big on talking about stuff - we don't have fixed rules about anything [but they] self-regulate.

"I have boundaries. I want all of us to have a moral compass. Kindness is a big thing. Also freedom. The world is all about what you dial up and what to dial down - there's a lot going on for the boys with schools and exams.

"I want home to be a place where they can feel good, safe and supported by their siblings. So I'm quite firm around the edges of all that because I really value it.

"But I've had too many children to be a strict parent - I've realised that is not a value of mine."

Sophie also revealed that her eldest child Sonny has moved in with his grandmother.

She explained that they have "always been so close" and his grandmother lived alone before he went to live with her.

When it comes to Sonny, 21, he has moved in with his grandmother who lives close by - something which Sophie encouraged.

Meanwhile, Sophie revealed earlier this year that some of her children were being picked on for their red hair.

She told Andreas Wild on her Salon Confidential podcast: "It's [bullying] definitely been something they've experienced, which is really harsh.

"You get to secondary school and anything that marks you out becomes the thing you will be teased about.

"It's extraordinary how you have this desire at that age group just to blend in, to be part of the pack. It's a really strong instinct.

"But rather than letting it make you feel down, hopefully by having conversations, you can actually keep an eye on it and keep it on the right side of things."
