Marty Supreme unexpectedly rekindled Gwyneth Paltrow's love for acting

The 53-year-old actress "lost touch with the world of cinema" after taking a temporary break to focus on her lifestyle brand Goop, but after starring in the 2025 ping pong drama - her first major acting role in six years - Gwyneth wants to star in more movies.

The star - who has daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19, with her 48-year-old ex-husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin - explained in the new issue of WHO magazine that her career has gone through chapters: "In my 20s and until I had my daughter, my dream was cinema.

"Then I had this beautiful dream of parenthood, which still goes on, and then an entrepreneurial dream.

"Funnily enough, and quite unexpectedly, a dream returned around cinema again, which I wasn't sure was ever going to come back until I heard about this film.

"It's very hard to keep all of the balls in the air at once."

However, Gwyneth has zero regrets about taking an acting break to focus on Goop - which sells beauty, fashion, and wellness items.

The star - whose last big screen role was as Pepper Potts in Avengers: Endgame in 2019 - said: "For a number of years, I really turned my attention deeply to my life as an entrepreneur, and I lost touch with the world of cinema.

"Maybe that was to protect myself in a way and not feel like I made a choice that made me miss out on something. But my life as an entrepreneur is extremely interesting and exhilarating. I never regretted stepping away."

Gwyneth was tempted to do Marty Supreme because filming fell when she had an "empty nest" with her children away at college, and in a location close to where they are studying.

Working with Josh Safdie, the 41-year-old director of Marty Supreme - in which her character, faded Hollywood actress Kay Stone, prepares for a film comeback of her own, and strikes up a sexual relationship with aspiring table tennis player Marty Mauser (Timothee Chalamet) - also helped to make it an unforgettable experience.

And Gwyneth - who has been married to 54-year-old TV writer-and-director Brad Falchuk since 2018 - will only star in more movies if the projects are "really special" and worthwhile like Marty Supreme.

Asked if she is "officially unretired now", Gwyneth replied: "I am more open to doing other films if it could be an experience like this one, which I felt was really special - one that I will cherish going forward. We'll see what comes next..."
