Dove Cameron was "barefaced" and in a "big T-shirt" when Damiano David proposed to her

The 30-year-old singer-and-actress revealed earlier this month that she had got engaged to the Maneskin frontman, but she's now confirmed the photos she shared at the time were taken by friends on a New Year's vacation and the 27-year-old star actually popped the question during a casual moment back in October.

She told America's Vogue magazine: "For the actual proposal, I wasn't wearing any make-up.

"I was completely barefaced, 'cause I had no idea that it was gonna be that day. It was very sweet in that way because I am typically very made-up, done-up. I have fun experimenting with that stuff. But in this case, I was just in my big T-shirt, slightly damp hair, and no makeup."

The Descendents star didn't share too many details about her wedding plans but she knows she wants a casual beauty look.

She said: "Honestly, for my actual wedding day, I don't want to do something too traditional.

"Every time I have my makeup done in a very pretty, kind of like, gold-wash, very slight eyeshadow, and just a little bit of mascara, I don't feel like myself. Like I feel like I'm performing for this kind of like, a woman looks best with the least amount of make-up, and I feel like I'm doing it for someone else.

"I would rather be in literally no makeup, or like a sort of a smudgy eye, like I threw on some eyeliner and I f***** it up myself, kind of thing."

Dove and Damiano marked their second anniversary together back in October.

At the time, the former Disney Channel star shared a carousel of photos and wrote on Instagram: "The best two years of my life.

"I am brought to tears at least once a week because life has become so beautiful with you in it. i love you in a way no words could ever express, but i will never stop trying. buon anniversario amore mio."

Last February, Dove explained why she and Damiano decided to go public with their romance after several months of dating.

She told People magazine: "We had a conversation early on, because it's a weird thing that you have to talk about.

"He was like, 'If someone in high school, or who's a lawyer, nurse or working at a coffee shop can post a picture of their partner and share the normal, beautiful parts of their lives, why should it be different for us?' "

The singer-and-actress admitted she felt "so much anxiety" about letting her relationship come under public scrutiny.

    She said:

"I've been public in the past,, and I've had some not-so-public relationships that I was a little bit less inclined to share. Not because of the people I was seeing, but because it just felt like a scary thing to be really open about. It's like I got scared."
