Measles cases in New Zealand have surpassed the US total

Measles cases in New Zealand have surpassed the US total

There's been 1327 cases here this year, 1108 of them in Auckland.

The US Center for Disease Control and prevention updated its figures overnight, showing 1241 cases across its population of 327.2 million.

Auckland Regional Public Health's Dr William Rainger says New Zealand's not hit its peak yet.

He says the incubation period is two weeks and the vaccine takes two weeks to be effective - so we might see a two to four-week lag.
