Victoria Beckham has "earned her place to show in Paris" after fighting to survive in the fashion industry

The Spice Girls star launched her self-named fashion brand back in 2008 and the business struggled with money issues for years before finally getting back on track - and Victoria now admits the tough times were not "easy" but she's managed to prove her critics wrong

Her fashion journey is seen onscreen in her new self-titled Netflix documentary and she told The Times newspaper: "[In the documentary] I touch on ... the problems we've had with the business, you know, the money we've lost ... I've earned my place to show in Paris, I've earned the respect."

When asked to name the biggest hurdle she's faced, Victoria replied: "That I was just a celebrity brand. But the difference is I wanted to learn the industry, not just throw out something that might promise a return.

"I wanted to understand and learn my trade. I haven't talked before about the struggles that the business has been through.

"We've all seen the headlines, but this is the first time I also talk a lot about the business journey and how it hasn't all been easy."

Victoria went on to admit she also had to earn the respect of renowned fashion editor Anna Wintour, adding: "I had to prove myself to her.

"She didn't come [to my fashion shows] at the beginning. But I have to say, she has been incredibly supportive and kind.

"But did I have to work for her approval? Absolutely. I had to work for a lot of people's approval."

Victoria has since expanded her fashion brand into beauty - launching make-up, skincare and perfume - and in the interview, she admitted creating a skincare line that's "taken seriously" was incredibly challenging.

She said: "The success has been phenomenal, and that's another thing I'm so proud of - for a fashion brand to be taken seriously and have credibility in beauty, that's tough, but then to be taken seriously in skincare, that's even harder."

Victoria's latest big product launch is a new foundation that marries the perfect make-up coverage with a skin-boosting formulation and she recently admitted it was tricky to get right.

She told HarpersBazaar.com: "Some products feel like they've been a lifetime in the making, and The Foundation Drops are exactly that for me.

"I was looking for something really innovative that hadn't been done before.

"A lot of people claim to have skincare science within their foundation, but I knew that I wanted to do that to another level, and do it in a really meaningful way. So it became very apparent that I actually should pause and really think about it."
