A Christchurch chef has been sentenced to four months' community detention for assaulting teen staff at the restaurant where he works

Sumeer Thapa was charged with assault and sexual conduct between 2021 and 2024, and found guilty of the assaults.

The court's heard he made inappropriate comments and touched the four teens' backs, buttocks and legs.

Judge Deidre Orchard says Thapa doesn't grasp the seriousness of his offending, or believe he's done anything wrong.

He's promised to pay each victim one-thousand dollars in emotional harm reparation.
