A prisoner with a burst appendix claimed she was told to ride out painful and worsening symptoms - a nurse said was just a stomach bug

Open Justice reports a week later she had emergency surgery to remove the appendix and a section of intestine, because of infection.
The Department of Corrections accepts the care was not up to standard - blaming staffing gaps at the prison health centre, and has since made changes.
Health and Disability Deputy Commissioner Vanessa Caldwell says it's clear systems and support for those clinical staff were insufficient.
She's recommended the prison apologise and ensure specific training's completed.
