Christchurch's Alpine Ice has shut for the weekend, after a 13-year-old student died on a school trip

Kymani Hiley-Hetaraka was fatally injured after a fall at the ice rink on Brougham Street on Tuesday.

In an update, the family says they're in a state of disbelief and are beyond devastated.

Alpine Ice says the wider skating community stands in shared grief over the tragedy- and is closed for public skating until at least tomorrow.

    Worksafe is investigating.
