Nick Jonas says having a "very tight-knight inner circle" saved him from "a lot of the pitfalls" of fame

The 35-year-old star began acting on Broadway at the age of seven before going on to star alongside his siblings Kevin, 37, and Joe, 35, in the boy band Jonas Brothers

They gained a huge following starring on the Disney Channel in the film 'Camp Rock' in 2008 and its 2010 sequel 'Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam'.

And the 'Love Again' star credits the support of his loved ones with getting through his career "relatively unscathed", while other child stars, including fellow Disney star and friend Demi Lovato, 32, have succumbed to substance abuse and suffered mental health issues.

Nick made the comments while discussing his role in the upcoming musical comedy 'Power Ballad', in which he portrays Danny Wilson, who has experienced what many of his peers have been through.

Speaking to Variety, Nick said: "He is dealing with a lot of the pitfalls that I was fortunate enough to circumnavigate by way of being very close with my family.

"Having a tight-knit inner circle that hasn't changed over the years has helped me get through relatively unscathed, but I was able to look at some of my peers over the years, see what some of those pitfalls were and draw on those experiences."

Back when he was starting out, social media wasn't a thing, and Nick - who has two-year-old daughter Malti with actress wife Priyanka Chopra - admits he has "wrestled" with how much of his personal life he wants to share with the world.

He said: "As social media has grown in the last 15 years, feeling the need to share more of your life online has been something I've wrestled with.

"It's about finding that balance of how much is enough to engage the audience and feel connected to my fans while also being in a place where I don't feel like I am living my life on display."

Nick says thanks to his relationship with his Bollywood star, 42, wife he's been able to grow his audience in India.

He went on: "The important thing to remember as a person living a public life is how you use these tools that make a very big world that much smaller.

"'My audience in India, for instance, has grown exponentially with Instagram over the last couple of years and I felt a real connection to that part of the world that I didn't have prior to my relationship.

"That has now extended even into music, film and the art I've been exposed to."
