The Reserve Bank has issued a license for a non-bank deposit taker, for the first time in almost a decade

It's granted the license to new Hawke's Bay finance company Welcome.

Welcome's chief executive, Anton Douglas, says the company will offer higher deposit rates thank banks, with more certainty of returns.

He says it will also offer better protection than mortgage funds and unregulated alternative options.
