School lunch provider Compass has been instructed not to heat its packed meals in commercial ovens - after a Gisborne child was severely burned by a school lunch

The Government-provided cottage pie splattered on the child's leg when he dropped it because it was too hot.

He got second degree burns and sending him to hospital.

The Ministry of Education is warning the meals were never intended for use in commercial ovens.
