Fire crews have fully extinguished the hay-bale fire that broke out near Ashburton, late last Wednesday night

The barn, containing tens of thousands of hay bails, went up in flames and crews have been on rotation over the weekend to extinguish the blaze.

At its peak, there were 11 fire crews and additional staff on the scene.

All firefighting ceased this morning and the land is being handed back to owners.
