Ozzy Osbourne got addicted to "posh" apples before he died

The Paranoid hitmaker - who died in July aged 76 - was thankful to have "finally" got his addictions to drugs and alcohol under control in the later part of his life, but admitted he was so "hooked" on a particular variety of the fruit, he hired a "special guy" to go shopping for them and at one point was eating 12 in one night

his upcoming posthumous autobiography, Last Rites, Ozzy - who suffered from Parkinson's disease and other health issues - wrote in an extract shared by The Times newspaper: "The one major blessing these days is that my addictions are finally under control. I've got so many doctors and nurses hovering over me at all times, there's not even the opportunity.

" Mind you, back in LA - in the months before we left for England - I did get hooked on apples for a while.

"Not just any apples, mind you. They had to be Pink Lady apples. None of that Granny Smith bulls***. And they had to be from Erewhon, the posh LA store.

"The thing with Pink Ladies is, they're not too sweet but they're not too sour. They're in between.

"I got to the point where some nights l was eating 12 of 'em. I even hired a special guy to drive down to Erewhon and buy them. I didn't want to have 'em delivered in case I got brown ones, or ones with dents in.

"Anyway, this guy was buying so many they started rationing him. It got to the point where I needed to join Pink Ladies Anonymous. It's a wonder I didn't wake up one day with an apple tree sprouting out of my a***."

However, Ozzy counted himself as a "recovered appleaholic" because when he and wife Sharon Osbourne returned to England in May to prepare for his Back to the Beginning farewell concert - which took place just a few weeks before he died - he wasn't "craving" the fruit anymore.

He added: "But it's strange, the second I got to England I just stopped craving them. Maybe it was one of my medications that caused the addiction. Just the other day they gave me a couple of slices of apple with my lunch and I wasn't interested. So I guess I'm a recovered appleaholic now."
