The deaths of the elderly couple, found in a West Auckland paddock this week, are being referred to the Coroner

The bodies of 82-year-old Alfred Hansen and 81-year-old Gaye Hansen were found at their Anzac Valley Road hobby farm, by their son, on Thursday morning.

Post mortem examinations reveal the pair were killed by an animal.

Police say officers were confronted by a rogue ram when they arrived at the paddock.

The ram was shot after Police carried out a risk assessment.
