June was warm and dry - for much of the country

NIWA's monthly climate report shows temperatures were above average for most regions - highest in Hastings, at 25.7 degrees.

Gisborne was the wettest location relative to normal - recording 219 percent of its normal June rain.

Climate scientist Gregor Macara says the rain in Northland, Tasman and the Dunedin was also well above normal.

He says it wasn't the same for other regions - with most drier than usual for June.
