A significant police presence in the affluent Christchurch suburb of Mount Pleasant, where a woman's died, and a man's been charged with her murder

Police say a woman's body was found at a property on Mount Pleasant Road around 5pm yesterday.

A man in his 70s has been charged with murder - and will front court today.

Herald photographer George Heard is at the scene, and says police are focussing on a property at the end of a long driveway.

He says the mobile police unit is there, and a police tent has been set up in the driveway.

Police say a forensic examination is expected to continue over the coming days.
