Knowledge and access to support have been identified as key to plugging a gap in dementia care

Knowledge and access to support have been identified as key to plugging a gap in dementia care

Early research from the largest ever dementia study in New Zealand shows half of those living with dementia in Asian, Indian, and European communities, aren't getting professional help.

Lead researcher Ngaire Kerse says getting professional support can improve a dementia sufferer's quality of life, as well as removing the stress from family carers.

Kerse says improving dementia awareness, and making sure health services provide culturally appropriate care for non-english speakers will help.
