It's thought there's no chance administrators will find a buyer for homewares retailer Smiths City

It's thought there's no chance administrators will find a buyer for homewares retailer Smiths City

The company - founded in Christchurch in 1918 - entered voluntary administration yesterday, with all nine stores and the online shop shut down.

An ad in today's paper is calling for interested buyers.

The company went into receivership, and was sold in 2020.

But First Retail managing director Chris Wilkinson says the brand no longer has relevance in the market.

He says Harvey Norman and Noel Leeming have intensified, while the likes of JB Hi Fi and Big Save are adjusting and expanding to sell things like appliances.
