After a year of consulting - the Government's expected to announce changes to earthquake building standards this afternoon

The Prime Minister says the long-awaited changes will do away with a one size fits all approach - and give building owners more control.

Currently, standards compare existing buildings with measures taken in new-builds - and any rated below 34 percent is considered earthquake prone.

Chris Luxon says the Government's spent a long time talking to building owners, and is trying to rebalance the rules with a commonsense solution.
