Ryan Reynolds is set to make his debut as a soccer commentator

The 49-year-old Wrexham AFC co-chairman will join co-owner Rob McElhenney for a live commentary stint on Sky Sports in the UK, when the Red Dragons face Swansea City in a Welsh derby game on March 13.

The pair, who purchased the then fifth-tier club back in 2021, said: "As with our decision to take over Wrexham five years ago, we genuinely have no idea how this is going to go, but we will give it our best. Neither of us have called a sporting event of any variety, let alone a sport we basically learned the rules of five years ago."

The broadcast - which is being called Live from Wrexham with Rob and Ryan - will air alongside the main Sky Sports coverage, with the pair joined by presenter David Prutton for an unscripted, real-time alternative commentary.

The Wrexham co-owners have also issued a light-hearted warning to their broadcast partners.

They said: "We're grateful to our partners at the EFL and Sky Sports, the latter of which we hope is ready with the bleep button."

The upcoming commentary stint builds on the global success of Welcome to Wrexham, the Emmy Award-winning docu-series which has followed the club's extraordinary rise over recent years.

The hit TV show has won ten Emmy Awards, documenting three consecutive promotions that brought the club to the EFL Championship, the second-best division in England, for the first time in 43 years.

Club CEO Michael Williamson said the commentary idea is in-keeping with the ownership's approach to Wrexham and to soccer more broadly.

He explained: "From the very beginning of Rob and Ryan's ownership, we have strived as a club to do things differently. The first-ever Live from Wrexham with Rob and Ryan allows Wrexham fans globally yet another unique way of following our match with Swansea in a world where sport and entertainment collide."
