Northland motorists are advised to drive carefully today

Northland motorists are advised to drive carefully today

The region is under a heavy rain warning and strong wind watch until five o'clock tonight.

New Zealand Transport Agency's Jacqui Hori-Hoult says the ground is still saturated from last month's floods.

She warns heavy rain might cause surface flooding and slips.

Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel and check their route for hazards and disruptions before setting out.
