    The Central North Island has been shaken by a moderate earthquake



    GeoNet recorded a 5.2 magnitude quake 45 kilometres southwest of Taumarunui, 23 kilometres deep.

    A person at Whakapapa skifield said an alarm activated and people rushed down from the mountain.

    A couple at The Chateau Tongariro said sirens sounded, warning of an emergency evacuation.
