Sofia Coppola thinks the world needs "a little Bill Murray right now"

The 49-year-old director has reunited with the Hollywood star for 'On the Rocks', a comedy-drama film about a father and daughter relationship, and Sofia thinks Bill is the perfect person to lift spirits amid the coronavirus pandemic

The acclaimed filmmaker - who previously directed Bill in 'Lost in Translation' - said: "I think we all need a little Bill Murray right now! He has so much heart and he’s so funny and in a way that is so unique to him."

Sofia made 'Lost in Translation' back in 2003, but she admits that her working life has changed dramatically since she became a mother.

The director - who has Romy, 13, and Cosima, 10, with her husband Thomas Mars - revealed her life is now focused around her children, rather than her work.

Asked if she thought motherhood would impact her career, Sofia told The Independent: "I never really thought about it.

"But you start to realise how you have to be more organised with your time. And it’s kind of the opposite of an artist, [where] you need to just meander. It’s not like something you can do within the hour.

"For anyone creative, it’s a definite adjustment."

Sofia is the daughter of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, and she admits that their relationship has also had a big impact on her life.

She shared: "I guess it’s a big theme to me, but I think for probably a lot of women, that has a big impact on shaping how you relate to men in the world, and probably having a big father-figure, it’s something especially in my mind, but I think it’s universal."
