It's a day of strong winds in the North Island and heavy snow in the South

Auckland Harbour Bridge is down to reduced lanes, as officials continue to monitor strong winds.

Motorists are being asked to drive with caution and reduce their speed.

A tornado in Cambridge has brought down a tree onto a woman in Victoria Square, and a branch onto three cars on Hall Street.

Another tornado in Levin has closed sections of State Highway One.

Snow is falling in many parts of the South Island including the mountain passes.
