Kristin Chenoweth was "severely abused" in a relationship

The 'West Wing' actress has opened up about being a victim of domestic abuse after her social media followers questioned why she had pledged to "pray" for Sean 'Diddy' Combs after hotel surveillance footage from 2016 which seemingly showed him assaulting ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura was made public.

In response to the backlash she received, Kristin wrote: "Never wanted to come out with it, but here we go. Several years ago i was severely abused. It took me therapy and prayer to understand i deserved better. I was deeply injured physically and spiritually. The only thing i knew to do when i got out was pray. Pray for myself. Pray for him as he grew up abused. So. There yall go.(sic)"

She also wrote: "It was the lowest I've ever been in my life"

The 55-year-old star admitted she hasn't "forgiven" her abuser.

She wrote: "I must admit i haven't forgiven yet. It's beyond me. God is helping me through that part. A victim has to handle it however she-he- they needs to and is best for them."

In her original posts, Kristin explained the footage had been "bothering" her and insisted there was "no excuse" Diddy could make, but then faced a backlash after offering to "pray" for the rap mogul.

She originally wrote on X: "There is no excuse no matter what his defense is. Heartbreaking i used to love him."

She added in another post: "Honestly i have my reasons for the Sean Combs video bothering me so much. The main thing i need to do is pray for him."

Acknowledging she was "taking heat" for her comments, the 'Wicked' actress also wrote: "Believe me i was sick when i saw it and so thankful she was ok. He is NOT. He is ill. Sick. Only God can forgive him. So forgive me but that's how i think. And pray.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has confirmed that it's "unable to charge" the 54-year-old rapper over the "extremely disturbing" footage because too much time has passed.

Cassie launched a lawsuit against Diddy last year, accusing her ex-boyfriend of abusing her over a number of years. The former couple reached an out-of-court settlement shortly after the news became public.

However, Diddy has always maintained his innocence.

Ben Brafman, his attorney, told CNN at the time: "Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations."
