Morgan Spurlock finalised his divorce from Sara Bernstein just months before his death

The director passed away on Thursday (23.05.24) at the age of 54 following a battle with cancer and now it has been revealed that he and Sara - with whom he had eight-year-old son Kanllen - had "amicably settled" everything in the months leading up to his passing

Randi Karmel, an attorney who represented Spurlock in his divorce, said in a statement: "The parties amicably settled all outstanding issues between them prior to his death. My thoughts are with Morgan's family at this very difficult time.

"It's heartbreaking news. I know Morgan as a wonderful person to work for, very appreciative of his family, and devoted to the health and well-being of his children, in addition to being a great filmmaker."

Morgan who was initially married to married to Priscilla Sommer from 1996 to 2003 and then Alex Jamieson from 2006 until 2011 - is also survived by his parents Ben and Phyllis Spurlock, brother Craig, as well as his two sons, Laken, 17, who he had with his second wife.

The moviemaker found global fame when he directed and starred in the acclaimed documentary 'Super Size Me', which followed him as he consumed nothing but items from McDonald's for 30 days and was nominated for an Oscar for his work.

His brother, who worked with his sibling on several projects, said in a statement to Variety: "It was a sad day, as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan.

"Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas and generosity. Today the world has lost a true creative genius and a special man. I am so proud to have worked together with him."
