A Christchurch Sikh leader's warning his community to stay off the streets at night, after the death of Mewa Singh at Linwood Park

A Christchurch Sikh leader's warning his community to stay off the streets at night, after the death of Mewa Singh at Linwood Park

He died last April, after being felled by a father who mistakenly believed he was kidnapping his son from a skate park.

His boy told his dad the 60-year-old was trying to return him, but the father shoved and punched Singh, who was fatally injured when his hit head the pavement.

The Sikh Society's Jitender Sahi says it's shocking -- in a country they thought was safe.

The man has been found guilty of manslaughter and will be sentenced in October.
