Kate Winslet knew her husband was her soulmate when he rescued her and her daughter from a fire on his uncle Sir Richard Branson's island

The mother-of-three 'Titanic' actress, 47, married Ned Rocknroll - born Edward Abel Smith - 12 years ago and they has now opened up about how she grew to love him a few days after they met on Sir Richard's Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands

Kate was there with her actress daughter Mia, 23, when a storm struck, leading to the house they were staying in catching fire when it was hit by lightning - with Ned helping them escape.

Kate told The Daily Telegraph about the dramatic incident: "It was very clear to me that this was the person I was supposed to follow through life. And I still feel exactly that way now.

"(Ned) looks after everybody. He's wonderful. We literally do life together, we really do.

"He's always jumped from project to project, and when I met him he was setting up a music festival."

The actress also told how she thought Ned's self-adopted 'Rocknroll' surname - which he has now ditched for his original one of Abel Smith - was "brilliant".

She added: "When someone told me I thought, that's brilliant, because the funny thing is, he's not remotely rock and roll.

"He's Mr Vegan Yoga. He's just the life and soul. Ned and I, we are real-life optimists.

"When you live with someone who wakes up, opens the curtains, and says, 'Hello, the world!' you just think, 'Yes, I am going to sign up for life'."

The actress has son Bear, 10, with Ned - and gave him the middle name Blaze in a reference to the fire drama.

Kate had Mia with her first husband Jim Threapleton, 50, and also has son Joe, 20, with her second husband, 59-year-old filmmaker Sam Mendes.
