The Police Minister says he is deeply concerned by attacks on bus drivers

The Police Minister says he is deeply concerned by attacks on bus drivers

A 36-year-old man is facing assault charges in the Auckland District Court on Friday, after a driver was punched and racially abused on Saturday.

Last month, another driver suffered a spine fracture after a group refusing to pay attacked him and hit him with a skateboard.

Minister Mark Mitchell says the workforce provides an outstanding public service - and everyone deserves to work without fear of being assaulted.

He says he's speaking with Transport Minister Simeon Brown about safety.
