Melanie Hamrick believes she has a good relationship with Sir Mick Jagger's older children and "hopefully they like" her

The 37-year-old author and Mick, 81, have been in a relationship since 2014 and have seven-year-old son Deveraux together

The Rolling Stones rocker has seven other children - daughter Karis, 53, with actress Marsha Hunt, daughter Jade, 52, with ex-wife Bianca Jagger, daughters Elizabeth, 40, and Georgia May, 32, and sons James, 39, and Gabriel, 26, with his former long-time partner Jerry Hall and son Lucas, 25, with model Luciana Morad Gimenez.

Melanie insists they all get on and are a "large happy crew".

Appearing on British daytime TV show 'Loose Women', Melanie was asked how she gets on with her stepchildren, most of whom are older than her.

She replied: "I just take it with the flow. We have a great time, we don't take anything too seriously. We're just a large happy crew and hopefully they like me! I think that's how I live life I don't overanalyse, I don't overthink things, I just take by the moment."

Former ballet dancer Melanie is aware that the 44-year age gap between her and Mick is a topic that most people have an opinion on, but she doesn't pay attention to outside comments and cuts out the external noise because she knows that the couple and their son are a happy family.

She said: "Everyone's going to have an opinion on everyone's relationship when you're in the spotlight. As I said recently I cut out the noise. Am I hurting anyone? No. Am I happy? Yes. Is my family happy? Yes. That's really all that matters."

Explaining what attracted her to the 'Gimme Shelter' singer and he to her, she added: "We met in Japan, both performing. That sums up our relationship, when everyone asks, 'What do you guys have in common?' I'm like, 'We're both performers.' We understand each other's worlds. I understand preparing to go on stage. I understand before performing the anxiety you might face. I think that sums up how we met."

Mick and his Rolling Stones bandmates - which include Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood - completed their 'Hackney Diamonds Tour' in North America in the summer and it is estimated that the singer's energetic stage performances result in him running an average of 12 miles per night.

Melanie - who was a ballerina for the American Ballet Theatre for 15 years until she retired in 2019 - says Mick's enthusiasm for performing and his rigorous exercise regime are a constant inspiration for her to be active and keep fit.

She said: "He's up there dancing and running and exercising and I'm like, 'Alright Melanie, take a ballet class.' It's really inspiring. Get out and move."
