Concern, New Zealand's on the precipice of a whooping cough outbreak, as monthly case numbers spike

ESR reporting shows there were 187 whooping cough cases in September, more than double the number in August.

Health New Zealand National Clinical Director Susan Jack says there's a high risk of a national outbreak.

She says case numbers are among the highest recorded in five years, and are compounded by low rates of vaccination.
