Health groups are urging the public to have more consideration for bone health

Health groups are urging the public to have more consideration for bone health

Today is World Osteoporosis day, prompting messages of warning from awareness groups.

Osteoporosis New Zealand says the annual number of hip fractures related to the condition will double by 2050 because of the aging population.

Its Clinical Programme Director Christine Gill says these injuries are very likely to lead to further health issues down the line.

She says many people aren't aware they have bone problems until they get a fracture.
