Shazad Latif feels "privileged and honoured" to lead the cast of 'Nautilus'

The 36-year-old actor portrays Captain Nemo in the drama series - a reimagining of Jules Verne's classic tale 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas' that tells the origin story of the mysterious sailor and he's thrilled to be involved in such an "epic" story

Asked about his role during a special screening of the first episode of the Prime Video series in London on Saturday (19.10.24), he said: "We've always seen him in the other movies as an elusive, mysterious guy , we don't really know his back story so to get the chance to explore that over 10 episodes and do all the crazy things, it's pretty epic.

"I'm very privileged and honoured to play him."

When it comes to the rest of the series, Shazad teased viewers can expect "lots of adventures".

He said: "More action, more comedy, more great set pieces. Just seeing it on the big screen was very exciting, lots and lots of adventures, swashbuckling stuff."

But the actor warned there is also a "very serious undertone" running through the story.

Asked if he can relate to Captain Nemo, he said: "I suppose he's got some kind of trauma like we all do, that's what I love, it's a full on revenge story and at the heart of it is a very serious undertone, exploring the East India Company and all the bad stuff they did, so I can relate to that in some way."

But now filming has finished, Shazad joked he's ready to see the sun and take a holiday.

Asked if he could use nautilus, the titular submersible ship, to go anywhere, where would he go, he said: "I think right now just maybe Spain, a beach or something, get some good weather in."

'Nautilus' premieres on Prime Video on 25 October.
