    Surgery outcomes are improving despite an ageing population and more complex operations being performed


    Updated data through to the end of December 2023 shows overall surgical death rates here aren't increasing.

    Otago University Associate Professor Elizabeth Dennett says our figures also stack up globally.

    She says we are comparable to results from overseas, so surgery here is as safe as it is Australia, the UK and the US.
