    A main West Coast highway will be shut all weekend amid severe weather


    Widespread flooding, fallen trees and slips are have closed State Highway 6, between Haast and Ross.

    A state of emergency has been declared for southern Westland.

    At least 350 millimetres of rain has fallen in the 24 hours to seven this morning.

    Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell,is travelling from Hokitika to Franz Josef.

    He says a community down there has been cut off due to slips, and a campground has needed evacuations. 11-09-24 1230
