A message posted on the magazine's website reads: "The Princess of Wales made international headlines this year and stirred a conversation about privacy and health for public figures.
"In January, Kate Middleton was hospitalised for two weeks for a 'planned abdominal surgery' and Kensington Palace said she would be out of the public eye until Easter.
" But after conspiracy theories circulated online in March about Middleton's whereabouts, the royal put the rumours to rest by revealing that she had been diagnosed with cancer. In September, Middleton announced that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment."
The Princess was previously included on the TIME100 list of Most Influential People back in 2013, and she was one of the runners-up for the Person of the Year title in 2011.
Kamala Harris, who lost the US election to Trump last month, was also included on the shortlist with the publication praising her "remarkable 107-day presidential campaign" after current US President Joe Biden bowed out of the race while Trump landed his place on the list for his "stunning political comeback" by winning the vote four years after leaving office.
Also featured on the shortlist are Russian economist Yulia Navalnaya, chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Jerome Powell, podcaster Joe Rogan, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg, who was praised for the way he handled "government scrutiny" into his company which owns both Facebook and Instagram.
Last year's Person of the Year title went to Taylor Swift, who was absent from the 2024 shortlist despite dominating the world music scene over the last 12 months with her 'The Eras Tour' and latest album 'The Tortured Poets Department'.
