The Swedish rapper Gaboro has been shot dead in the city of Norrköping, south-west of Stockholm, according to local media reports.
Police said on Friday that a man had been shot and killed in a multi-storey car park.
A video appearing to show the hip hop star's killing has quickly spread online. In the vision, seemingly filmed with a camera worn by the shooter, a person carrying a handgun can be seen firing multiple shots in a car park.
Swedish police said they were aware of the video and that it was part of their investigation.
[Norrköping map]Officers said a man in his 20s, who had been found injured at the scene on Thursday, was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Multiple media outlets have reported that the man was the rapper Gaboro, whose songs have been streamed millions of times on Swedish music streaming giant Spotify.
Who is Gaboro?
Gaboro is a Swedish hip hop musician known for obscuring his identity with a black ski mask and sunglasses.
He first broke onto the rap scene with his release of his song Browski in 2022, which has accumulated more than 1.6 million views on YouTube.
The rapper's real name is Ninos Khouri, the BBC reported on Friday.
Since the release of Browski, Gaboro has attracted more than 226,000 monthly listeners to his songs released on Spotify, and he has more than 27,000 followers on Instagram.
His most popular song in 2024 is the single Harki, which has been streamed on Spotify more than 11 million times. His top 10 tracks on the audio streaming service gave generated more than 47 million streams collectively.
Rise in Swedish gang shootings
The death of Gaboro is not the first instance of a rapper being fatally shot in Sweden.
In June, 26-year-old rapper C.Gambino — whose real name is Karar Ramadan and is not to be confused with American rapper Childish Gambino — was also killed in a shooting.
He had been named Sweden's hip hop artist of the year the month before.
Another award-winning Swedish rapper, Einar, was shot and killed in Stockholm in a gang conflict in October 2021.
The nordic country has seen a recent rise in gang shootings and bombings linked to score-settling between rival groups, with police struggling to control the illicit drug market.
Last year 53 people died in 363 shootings, often in public and sometimes claiming the lives of innocent victims and passers-by.
The rate of homicides in Sweden has been increasing, including an uptick in gun-related murders since 2005, according to Brå, the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention.
Brå statistics show that four people per million inhabitants die in Swedish gun-related murders every year, which is more than two times the overall rate for mainland Europe.
